Free Film Night

This year is the 150th anniversary of the sailing of the ship, the Mimosa, from Liverpool Dock, carrying the first Welsh settlers to a new life in Patagonia in Argentina.   To mark the occasion, we are showing the film “Patagonia” on  Tuesday, 15 September, at  The Continental, in South Meadow Street, Preston, starting at 6.30 pm.

The film is about “the journey of two women, one looking for her past and the other for her future”, and stars Matthew Rhys, Marta Lubos, Nahuel Perez Bisayart, Nia Roberts and Duffy.   One of the women “travels South to North through the Welsh springtime and the other East to West through the Argentine Autumn”.  The dialogue is in Welsh and Spanish with English subtitles, and the film carries a ‘15’ rating.

Entry is free of charge and is open to all.

Sincere congratulations to Dr Ben Rees and Liverpool Welsh Society for organising an excellent festival.  4 of us went to Liverpool on Saturday to join in with the Memorial unveiling ceremony alongside Princes Dock.  It was an exceptionally interesting and entertaining occasion which left a deep impression on all of us.  The only disappointment was having to go home without going to the Welsh Concert in the evening.  A fantastic day!

Gwlad y Gân yn Nant Gwrtheyrn

Mi wnaeth bedair ohonon ni, sef Margaret, Jenny, Catherine ac Anne fwynhau’n fawr iawn yn Y Nant yn ystod wythnos gynta mis Mai.  Dysgu am hanes a chefndir cerddoriaeth Gymraeg o hen emynau hyd at ganeuon modern, canu bob dydd, gwneud ffrindiau newydd, wrth ein boddau yn yr amgylchedd unigryw, dawnsio Twmpath, cyfrannu at Y Noson Lawen ac, wrth gwrs,  blasu cwrw lleol yn Y Fic.  Mor braf oedd treulio pedwar diwrnod cyfan yn cyfathrebu yn “yr hen iaith” – mi wnaiff hi barhau!

Four of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in The Nant during the first week of May.  Learning about the history and background of Welsh songs from old hymns to modern pop, singing every day, making new friends, in our element in the unique environment, dancing the “Twmpath”, contributing to the Variety Evening and, of course, sampling the local brew in The Vic.  It was so good to spend four whole days conversing in “the old language” – she will continue!

Let’s Dance!

Our meeting this May is triply different.
It is not on the first Thursday in the month, but the second, the 14th.
It’s not in the Lending Library, but in the Harris Education Room (the annexe facing the main entrance).
And we’ll be trying out some traditional Welsh dances under the guidance of members of Hoghton Folk Dance Club.
