We’re Now A Charity!

Since our monthly Clwb Siarad meeting this November we’ve been formally constituted as a charity.  We’ll be setting up a page on here for the Constitution and other club business.

It’s exciting for Anne, Margaret and me, because in February this year there were just the three of us meeting for a coffee in the café at The Harris and wondering how to set up a Welsh Club in mid-Lancashire.  Now there are twentytwo of us to come to our monthly Clwb Siarad meetings and nearly forty on our mailing list.

We’re very grateful for all the help we’ve had: the big picture and story the Lancashire Evening Post  ran in March, Lancashire Libraries at The Harris giving us free publicity and monthly meeting space, and the continuing support of members of the former Clwb Clebran.

Now we have a proper club structure and our first committee (the  Constitution calls them Trustees) we can invite all who support us to become members and help the club to develop further.    If you aren’t already on our mailing list, do contact us, please.

Day Trip to the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2015

Next Year’s Eisteddfod is being held in Meifod (about 16 miles down the A495 from Oswestry) and near enough for us to make a joint day-trip if we can fill a mini-bus. There will be lots there to do and see (and eat and drink) for all of us,  including even the newest learners. http://www.eisteddfod.org.uk/english/2015/maes-d-welsh-learners/

We would probably go on our meeting day, Thursday 6 August, and would need to make an earlyish start. Let us know if you think you might be interested and we’ll keep you updated.  You can tell Margaret at any Thursday Clwb Siarad, or e-mail clwbsiarad@gmail.com or make a comment on our website http://www.welshclubpreston.org.

‘Hedd Wyn’ Free Film Show 16/09/2014

We celebrated Dydd Owain Glyndŵr (16ed Medi/Sept 16th) and commemorated the centenary of The Great War with a free showing of Hedd Wyn at The Continental in South Meadow Lane.

It was a fine evening, the food beforehand was good, and we were delighted to make new friends.

Croeso Cynnes i Bawb

dragon

We’re a group of people living in mid-Lancashire with an enthusiasm for all things Welsh: the country, the language, and family ties.  Everyone sharing that enthusiasm is welcome to come and join us.  We’re a very friendly bunch.  Language learning and conversation practice are our main activities.  Some of us are fluent, native speakers, but most of us are learners on a wide range of levels:  beginners / foundation to higher.

We meet regularly between September and July each year.  Our face to face meetings take place at The Continental Pub, South Meadow Lane, Preston, PR1 8JP.  We also hold 3 weekly zoom sessions, 1 for fairly fluent learners and 2 for less fluent learners.

If you want to know more about these events or our zoom meetings, email Anne at clwbsiarad@gmail.com.  We also have a Facebook page – search in “Groups” for Welsh Club Preston.

Our motto is “CROESO CYNNES I BAWB” – a “warm welcome to everyone” – fluent, rusty or learner.
